The Power of Focus in Success
In your journey to success, the power of focus cannot be
underestimated. The essence of life is productivity that is why God instructed
us to be fruitful, multiply and subdue the Earth…(Gen 1:28 ).
However, it is important to note that without the power of
focus, you will often feel drained and not able to accomplish much. With focus,
you will discover that your talents and abilities seem to propel you in the
direction of accomplishing your goals. To get the most out of the incredible
power of focus, you need to become familiar with some facts.
1. Focus Does Not Come Naturally to Most People
We live in a world of unlimited distractions. Everything
seems to be seeking our urgent attention. Distractions stem from radio,
television, internet and more. For this reason, most people find themselves
pulled in several directions. The worst part being that we sometimes expend our
energy doing what we don’t really care much about.
To overcome this, you need to become aware of the first law
of success which is “Concentration of effort”. This means to direct all your
energy to one point and aim that point without looking left or right. This
point was strengthened by Jim Elliot who said “wherever you are, be there”.
2. Focus Lifts You
Davis Starr Jordan once said, “The world stands aside to let
anyone pass who knows where he or she is going”. That is very well said and in
such simple words. Focus has such as uplifting impact on you as a person in
your business life, relationships, family and indeed all areas.
3. Focus Fuels Your Energy
When it comes to personal development, energy combined with
a clear focus can provide us with the inspiration we need for success. Having
lots of energy without focus is like watching a group of kids play with their
toys. They expend tremendous amount of energy moving from one toy to another
but they get very little work done.
We see the magic in us come alive when we work with focus.
4. Success Demands Sustained Focus
Focus cannot be relegated to the back if your aim is to
succeed in any endeavor you are engaged in. Just like a beam of light gradually
diffuses as it progresses, the same way does your ability to focus diffuse if
not properly sustained. Focus requires a lot of energy, but the pay is more
than worth the price. As president John F Kennedy asserted, “Effort and courage
are not enough without purpose and direction”.
